False Positives from Anti Virus Software

Regularly, mainly right after a new release, some Anti Virus scanners detect Virus or Malware signatures in Gpg4win.

If your Anti Virus Software claims that Gpg4win contains a Malware signature you should:

  • Verify the integrity of the downloaded file. (to ensure that it was manipulated on transfer)
  • Notify the publisher of your Anti Virus Software that you think this might be a False Positive.

Additionally VirusTotal can help to get an overview about the results from other scanners. Usually there is a handful of (often times different) signatures while the overwhelming majority does not find anything. If your Scanner is one of the outliers this is a good indicator that it is indeed a False Positive.
